Wood View learning Community Federated Governing Body
The governing body for the Wood View Learning Community is a hard federation of three schools namely; Whitleigh Community Primary School, Woodlands Community Special School and Sir John Hunt Community Sports College. In addition, the governing body oversees the work of Wise Owls Neighbourhood Nursery, Whitleigh Children’s Centre and a Pupil Referrral Unit for Young Parents. Over time it has also reveived reports from partners such as adult education and more recently Plymouth’s Forest School. All partners are accommodated within one building built by Interserve as part of Plymouth’s PFI project. The governing body works with the Director of Campus and the Campus Leadership Team to ensure effective collaboration, joint working and economies of scale. There are four main committees, namely Resources, Personnel, Extended Services and Learning. Each committee manages the business of each partner within the meeting or through an attached sub committee. For example the Health and Safety Forum meets separately, but its minutes are reported to the Resources committee, whilst the Children’s Centre Management Group meets separately and reports to the Extended Services Committee. The governing body has two staff governors who represent all staff from the Wood View Learning Community and they are elected by the Staff Consultative Committee.
The governing body has also supported two Ofsted inspections and the following comments have been made.
Woodlands Community Special School. February 2008
"The recently formed federated governing body, whose brief it is to provide governance for the whole Wood View Learning Community Campus, is already demonstrating robust and effective support and challenge. The school is now very well placed to make a significant collaborative contribution to this new venture".
Sir John Hunt Community Sports College. December 2008.
"The new federated governing body discharges its responsibilities well and holds the school’s leaders and managers suitably to account for the school’s performance while providing valuable support".
